Renewal of the Sewer System and Public Space
The municipalities within the Drechtsteden region initiated the replacement of the existing sewer system while simultaneously revitalising the surrounding public area to meet future requirements. Besides upgrading the infrastructure itself, the project focused on soil quality, foundation conditions and the responsible management of excavated materials.
Close Collaboration with the Environmental Authority and Municipalities
The project was carried out in close cooperation with the Environmental Service Zuid-Holland Zuid, acting on behalf of the participating municipalities. This collaborative approach ensured that investigations, mitigation measures and construction activities could be continuously coordinated and optimised throughout the project.
The flexibility of this integrated approach enabled the project team to respond quickly to new findings from the various site investigations and environmental assessments.
Soil Investigation and Environmental Supervision
The project commenced with comprehensive soil investigations across the project area. Based on the results, Soil Remediation Decree (BUS) notifications and remediation plans were prepared and submitted where required.
During the remediation works, MH Poly provided full environmental supervision, ensuring compliance with applicable environmental legislation. Upon completion, all remediation activities were carefully evaluated and documented.
Groundwater, Asphalt and Foundation Investigations
In addition to the soil investigations, groundwater quality was assessed using an extensive range of analytical parameters. Particular attention was given to determining the possibilities for discharging dewatering water to surface waters or the municipal sewer system.
Further asphalt and pavement foundation investigations were carried out to provide a complete understanding of both the technical and environmental conditions within the project area.
Comprehensive Material Management Advice for Sustainable Reuse
By integrating all environmental and technical investigations, MH Poly prepared a comprehensive material management plan. This provided clear guidance on the reuse, treatment and disposal of excavated soils, asphalt and other construction materials.
The resulting advice enabled all stakeholders to execute the project efficiently while maximising the sustainable reuse of materials and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
